URGENT: Critical Changes to Permit Submissions Process with the City of Toronto' Building Division Effective November 7, 2011

If you submit plans to the City of Toronto's building division, please pay close attention to this notice.

ARIDO recently attended an information session with the City of Toronto's building division, Toronto Building, regarding upcoming changes to the existing submissions process for permits. During the meeting, ARIDO expressed concerns regarding stakeholder input and communications initiatives around this change. As a result, Toronto Building has agreed to create an Advisory Committee, on which ARIDO, as well as other interest groups, will actively participate throughout the transition and implementation process.

Here is what you need to know regarding changes happening immediately.

Starting November 7, 2011, Toronto Building will require the mandatory electronic submission of all documents including forms, reports, specifications, calculations and plans/drawings.

FASTRACK applications are exempt from mandatory electronic submission requirements, however, electronic submission is preferred.

All documents must be submitted at the counter on a rewritable DVD. In addition to electronic submissions and re-submissions, paper plans / drawings will still be required until the transition to full electronic processing is complete.

To ensure you have all the information related to Mandatory Electronic Submissions please see the Electronic Submission Guidelines prescribed by the Chief Building Official.

ARIDO will keep you informed as the process and transition develops. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sharon Portelli at or 416-921-2127.
