Members attend fall interior design shows in Milan and Verona

This past September, IDC members took part in two Italian trade missions to Milan for the HOMI Milano show, and Verona for the Marmomac event.

Seven IDC members were selected to attend the twice-annual HOMI Milano show, which is an international trade fair for interior design and upscale home décor, and is supported by the Italian Trade Agency, who sponsored both missions.

“Seeing the various suppliers at the HOMI show gave me a unique look into Italian Design that I would not have otherwise had the chance to see,” says Miranda Young, CEO and Interior Designer at Alt Haus Interior Design.

“It was so amazing to be exposed to design trends from around the world and see where Canada stacked up in terms of design,” she adds. “Through HOMI, I was also able to connect with Interior Designers, Architects, and Suppliers from around the world, and talk with them about their design journeys, which was truly eye opening to me moving forward in my own practice.”

These missions provide an opportunity for IDC to explore business ventures and forge new partnerships with interior designers and manufacturers across the globe.

Nearby in equally beautiful Verona, three IDC members attended the Marmomac show, which is the leading global event for the natural stone industry and represents the entire supply chain, from raw material to semi-finished and finished products; from processing machinery and technologies to applications of stone in architecture and design.

“This was an incredible experience and far surpassed my expectations,” says Tara Lefebvre, Registered Interior Designer and Marketing Assistant at Westridge Homes.

“Marmomac was an experience that provided me with a multitude of knowledge into the Stone Industry,” says Lefebvre, “and participation in the show created essential relationships with suppliers and others in the industry that I am finding beneficial.”

This IDC mission focused on stage/marble education and included walking tours of local quarries and factories, educational classes, along with a visit to the Marmomac show.

A list of upcoming IDC trade missions and application will be available early in the new year.
