Thank you to everyone who joined us at IDC’s 49th Annual General Meeting on Nov. 10, 2021, especially those of you who were able to attend in person at the Midgley Tecnica showroom in Toronto, Ontario. We appreciate your continued dedication to IDC.

I am humbled and deeply honoured to be elected as your President for the 2021/2022 term. I am excited to take on this post and undertake the important work ahead with IDC’s incredible team of staff and board members, and of course, all our members across the country.

My goal as IDC President is to create an open dialog, to engage with members on important and timely topics, and to be able to respond in a way that is meaningful and helpful for our collective growth as a community.

There is much work to be done within our industry and some of that begins with addressing our deep-rooted issues, amplifying often unheard voices, and taking steps to heal and create a better path forward.

We have already begun some of those important conversations with underrepresented designers in Canada, with the many students coast to coast getting through the pandemic, with designers everywhere doing their best to continue to thrive in their environments and contribute positively to their communities.

This coming year IDC will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and we, as an industry, have much to celebrate. Together, we will continue to honour the achievements of our design communities across the country by providing avenues to showcase member stories and the important work of Canadian interior designers.

IDC should be a reflection of who we are as a community and I look forward to connecting with many of you over the next year and hearing your feedback about the kind of future you want to see in Canadian interior design.

Sincerely,

Ian Rolston
IDC President
