In May of this year, IDC hosted two DesignEx events, bringing together IDC members, manufacturers, suppliers, and industry representatives in Okanagan, B.C. and Niagara Falls, Ont..

IDC featured a new venue to host DesignEx Okanagan at The Okanagan Golf Club this year where attendees spent the day discovering new products, networking, collecting IDCEC hours, and enjoying lunch on the sunny patio overlooking the golf course.

The event featured three seminars including “What’s Good for People? Moving from Wellness to Well-Being” presented by Tara Whittington of Knoll, “Marketing Strategies” presented by Rob Cupello of Csek Creative, and “BCBC – A Practical Guide to Code Updates for Interior Designers” presented by Sunny Ghataurah of AES Engineering.

“DesignEx Okanagan was successfully received by all table top trades as well as the attendees. The venue was beautiful, welcoming, and spacious,” says Krista Paine of Ian Paine Construction and Design. “The educators presented well and grabbed your attention. It was an honour to be on the planning committee”.

Following the success of DesignEx Okanagan, IDC hosted DesignEx Niagara on a beautiful sunny day at Legends on the Niagara, featuring two seminars, a networking lunch on the patio, a tour of the venue with lead architect Peter Berton, table top presentations, and a wine tasting from Megalomaniac winery.

The first seminar, titled “Design Evolution: How Porcelain Revolutionizes the Countertop World” lead by Glen Brewer Of Midgley Tecnica described the evolution of porcelain manufacturing methods and showcased the sustainability and wellness attributes associated with porcelain.

“Shop Drawings”, a seminar lead by Ted Katsoris of Morrison Hershfield, examined the importance of correctly incorporating the procedural and contractual requirements in the Shop Drawings and highlighted some of the pitfalls that can occur when there are errors and methods to avoid such errors.

The table top portion closed off the event, featuring a prize draw where attendees won various door prizes. In addition, IDC presented a draw amongst past DesignEx attendees across the country to win a complimentary ticket to IDC’s Design Symposium in Vancouver. The lucky winner, Sanja Mrsa, senior interior designer at Newground, will be attending the conference in September.

Okanagan hosted over 100 attendees and 39 showcase tables and Niagara hosted over 60 attendees and 19 table tops.

IDC’s next DesignEx event will be taking place in Ottawa this fall at The Andaz Ottawa Byward Market Hotel. Find out more and register here.
