IDC and IIDEX host a Hockey Tournament with a Twist in Support of Ronald McDonald House

IDC and IIDEX/NeoCon Canada teamed up to help Ronald McDonald House Toronto raise the remaining two million dollars of their thirty-two million dollar fundraising goal for the construction of a new facility by hosting the edge-of-your-seat Chair Hockey Tournament. The tournament ran throughout the two-day show with the grand finale that faced-off on Friday afternoon.

A "home away from home" for families coming to Toronto seeking medical treatment for seriously ill children, Ronald McDonald House Toronto is currently constructing a new, 96-bedroom facility to better meet the needs of these displaced families. IDC and IIDEX/NeoCon Canada's fundraising initiative will help put the finishing touches on the project and make the new Ronald McDonald House Toronto feel like home.

Originally conceived by Herman Miller, the two-day Chair Hockey tournament gave IIDEX attendees the chance to support their favourite team through donations to Ronald McDonald House Toronto. Money raised through sponsorship, team fundraising, toonie toss, silent auction, and Toronto Marlies ticket sales garnered a grand total of nearly $30,000! A big thank you goes out to the Chair hockey committee headed by Filo Costa, the participating dealers, volunteers, players and industry members who donated office chairs for the Chair Hockey tournament and raffle. Isabelle Talbot, Mahesh Babooram and Filo Costa refereed the games while Sue Bennett, Mahesh Babooram and Richard Hudon provided play-by-play commentary on the side lines.

Toronto Marlies mascot Duke the Dog was on hand to pump-up the crowd and even passed the puck around in the All-Star Celebrity game. As part of a special offer from the Toronto Marlies, proceeds of all ticket sales for the IDC and Ronald McDonald House Game Day, December 3, will support the House. Only a few tickets remain, so get yours today!  Special thanks to those who have purchased tickets and donated them to the families living at the House.

Rink-side rumours proclaimed the IDC/IIDEX team as the team to beat, but despite their best efforts-including several penalties for cross-checking, high-sticking and just plain roughing by Clinton Hummel and David Gibbons-the team lost 4 to 1. IDC/IIDEX team goalie, Stephen Lamoureux, chalks the loss up to poor team morale following the half-time break. "Our team gave up all hopes of winning after Susan Wiggins told us to keep our day jobs," recalls Stephen about their coaches ‘team-boosting' half-time speech. "We were so upset, that we even scored on our own net!"

The final game was neck-in-neck with Amovo/Allsteel versus Brigholme/Haworth (better known as the Zody-Acs). As the final buzzer rang, Amovo/Allsteel came out on top, winning the first-ever IIDEX Chair Hockey Tournament. Congratulations, Amovo/Allsteel and all other participating teams for their efforts.

In association with the Chair Hockey event, IDC launched the Healing Places Legacy Project. Members from across the country submitted images of their unique and individual "healing places", whether it be a spot alone in a quiet forest, at the end of a dock at sunrise, a sunny beach or a misty mountain top, 10 images were selected from more than 65 entries. With frames donated by PI Fine Art, the ten winning images will be permanently installed within the Quiet Room of the new Ronald McDonald House Toronto.

"We are incredibly grateful that IDC has come forward to help build the new, much-needed Ronald McDonald House Toronto. Opening next month, the new House will provide 30,000 nights of family comfort for seriously ill children and their families." Said Jane Marco, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House Toronto. "The IDC Chair Hockey Tournament was a great event for all involved and we were thrilled to be a part of it! On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you IDC!"
