It’s quality – not just price – that matters

Published by Sarah Bradbury, October 13, 2015.

In Canada, there has been a long history of continued opposition by many professions to the use of “low-bid” request for proposals (RFP) in government procurement projects.

IDC is proud to share that we are one of the first associations to become involved in a new coalition to advocate for qualifications-based selection (QBS). QBS Canada will act as a national umbrella group to advance the adoption of QBS in Canada, creating significant benefits to both buyers and sellers of professional services.

Along with IDC, other professional associations have also joined the QBS Canada alliance, including RAIC and ACEC, for a three-year strategic campaign to promote QBS nationally, on behalf of our members.

The objectives of this three-year campaign will be:

  1. To raise the awareness of QBS in the procurement community
  2. To facilitate the trial of QBS by procurement professionals
  3. To set the stage for new procurement policies

An annual communications, training and lobbying plan of approximately $400,000 annually will be needed to accompany these objectives with the goal to receive sponsorship from the industry. If you would like to get involved, please contact Susan Wiggins.
