How to learn from today to create a better tomorrow

Published by Sarah Bradbury, March 05, 2015.

IDC has established two new discussion forums to help provinces come together on key issues related to the profession of interior design. The first meeting for both initiatives took place February 20.

Susan Wiggins, CEO at IDC, along with Kara MacGregor, Director at Large (NS) on the IDC Board, co-chaired one discussion group on legislation and regulation. Legislative champions from each province provided updates about current initiatives and shared their approaches and challenges on the path to regulation. Many of them reported on the importance of relationships with their local architects associations and key contacts with the provincial government as being essential to the future success of the profession.

The second forum, also chaired by Susan, included membership administrators from each province and tackled issues such as membership challenges, alternative pathways, national and provincial standards, and reciprocity. There was a great deal of discussion with respect to membership applications, with all provinces anxious to share information on how to work towards a more streamlined process.

“Through this regular dialogue, we hope to find ways to share ideas and brainstorm strategies,” says Susan. “And, in the process, we will discover how IDC can further support each province, and our national community as a whole.”
