Volunteering is a truly invaluable experience where you can contribute to our growing interior design community and connect with like-minded individuals.

Take it from two IDC members who have gotten involved!

“When organizing the Eastern Ontario Chapter annual silent auction fundraiser, I not only get to renew relationships with others in my industry I may not have seen in a while, but I get to help raise money for charity that supports the vulnerable people in my community. Most of the time I work to pay the bills, but the time I volunteer allows me to pay my soul.”

Barbara Steele, DID, ARIDO, IDC

“When I first joined the Greater Toronto Area Chapter student committee, it was purely to collect non-IDCEC hours. What I gained was so much more. Six years later I find that volunteering is my way of giving back to the design community and making a difference for emerging professionals. When I was in school there weren't many events geared towards students, so it's important to me that we host events that are beneficial for our future designers. Our 'little' Career Xpress committee has grown from five people to 20 in the past six years. I have gained confidence in speaking in front of crowds and learned how to lead a successful team. The experience of volunteering has gone further than just receiving a few professional development hours. I've made many new friendships and really feel like part of the interior design community.”
