IDC envisions the future

Published by Ignite Admin, January 08, 2015.

Happy New Year and welcome to IDC’s newly revamped newsletter. Hopefully, the first of many 2015 IDC WOW factors! I want to extend a huge thank you to the graphic design team at Catalyst Workshop, our communications team Julia Salerno and Sarah Bradbury, and IDC Board Members Aandra Currie-Shearer, Karin Vandenberg, Jason Kasper, Donna Assaly and Andy Stilin for the many hours that have gone into developing our new communications link to members.

We wanted to shake things up to start 2015, and what better way to do so than with a makeover. Designed to bring you IDC news, our makeover is more than just a re-design. Read about all the changes in the article titled “Introducing your new bi-weekly source for News + PD.”

Tradition suggests that one should make a New Year’s resolution. At IDC, we’re going one step further than a resolution; we ‘re about to embark on a strategic planning process that will create a new vision and strategy for the next three years. IDC has engaged Rowley Mossop of Innovia Partners to work with us over the next four months to develop IDC’s new strategic plan.

Rowley began his assignment in December by holding roundtable discussions with members. For each roundtable, the participants were asked to focus on three questions:

  1. The competitive environment for our industry is changing. What three changes in your marketplace have the most impact on your business?
  2. The world of design is changing. What three changes in the practice of design have the greatest impact on your profession?
  3. We've changed our role. What are the three most valuable services we provide to you? What more can we do to build a more valuable partnership with you?

Since we couldn’t include everyone in our discussions, we’d still like your input. Do you have any thoughts on these questions? If so, please send to me at All of the feedback I receive will provide context for our Board’s strategy session scheduled for February 27 and 28.

For us to do our job effectively on your behalf, it is critically important that the strategy we set responds to the challenges that face our profession, you as our members and us as an organization. We must set a course not only for today, but for tomorrow.

In the meantime, we will continue to be your voice, to be your advocate, and we will continue to find ways to provide meaningful and relevant programming that you come to rely on.

We will bring you updates throughout the year through IDConnects; your new, awesome, bi-weekly source of news, professional development and community happenings.

Enjoy the read! Wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2015!
