“Dot com” is so 2014

Published by Sarah Bradbury, April 27, 2015.

Nowadays, the internet is the go-to resource for information. The domain name you choose is important in establishing your brand and getting the word out about who you are and what you do.

Traditional extensions like .com and .ca are still prevalent, but more and more alternative extensions are popping up like .org and .net.

Well now there’s another one on the market  .design!

“With the announcement that .design is becoming available, I felt that this might be of interest to the membership,” says Stephen Lamoureux, president of the Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba (PIDIM). At IDC, we also see this as an interesting opportunity to set up a more descriptive web-presence. In fact, we see such potential in this that IDC will be purchasing and using the relevant domains.

If you’re thinking of jumping on the .design bandwagon, just be sure to do your due diligence. Once the domain name has been purchased, the corresponding email and server will also need to be changed – plus, keep in mind the cost of changing all existing marketing materials. Of course, all of this can be done in stages and should be considered and worked out with your web developer, before you jump in headfirst.

The .design domain will be available in May, but you can pre-register your domain today.
