IDC Intern/Provisional Challenge winners make an impact

Get involved and make an impact were the buzz words at the IDC Intern/Provisional Networking event, which took place at IIDEX this September.

In August, IDC launched the 2010 Intern/Provisional Challenge: Exposed! The contest charged Intern and Provisional members from across Canada to submit as many as three photos that best captured the concept of texture. The event coincided with the release of the new IDC website which features "textures" in the graphic representations on each main page. We are pleased to announce that Anne Tse's submission, Solidified, won first place. John Salim's Natural took second place, and Emilio Barbero's Austin Wall was awarded third place. Congratulations to the 2010 winners!

The Challenge winners were announced at the IDC Intern/Provisional Networking Event held at IIDEX, September 24, 2010. Jessica Gozdzierski, IDC Intern Liaison from New Brunswick, hosted the event and, along with a panel of her peers from across Canada, spoke to Intern and Provisional IDC members about getting involved and making an impact in the profession and the Association.

Joining Jessica on stage were Derek Buttars, MB; Marichika Mohanty and Samuel Mathieu from i-Connexions in Montreal, Carly Durant, ARIDO GTA Chapter Director of Student/Intern Relations, and Roxann Brown and Nadine Burdak from ARIDO GTA. Collectively, they spoke of attending professional seminars to network with established interior designers and members of the design-build community. While each panelist had a slightly different story, their enthusiasm, passion and eagerness to get involved radiated throughout. In true impromptu fashion, the panel was joined by Trevor Kruse of Hudson Kruse Design who spoke of his volunteer history with the Association to help reinforce the message from the panel. Trevor was honoured at the IDC/IIDA Leaders Breakfast three years ago for a career filled with voluntary efforts that have helped to grow the profession. The group inspired event attendees to get involved, make an impact, and find out what their Association can offer them.

Thank you to our panel of IDC judges who took part in this program from across Canada: Susanne Tienhaara, Johane Lefrancois-Deignan, Nadia Kuhni, Rachel Mitton, and Jim Toy. And thank you to our event sponsors: Jump I.T. for supplying an Apple i-pod as part of the prize package; and PI Fine Art who provided the frames to display the winning photos at IIDEX.

Thank you to all competition participants. Your enthusiasm has ensured the continued success of this program. Watch for more Intern/Provisional member events throughout the year. We hope you will continue to participate and inspire us. View all photography submissions and winners.
