IDC mourns the loss of André Lapointe

Published by Julia Salerno, April 30, 2014.

andreIt is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of André Lapointe. André was a champion of the interior design profession, having contributed to the creation of de l’Association professionnelle des designers d’intérieur du Québec (APDIQ). He was also one of the founding members of Mission Design, working in collaboration with architects, landscape architects, graphic designers, industrial designers, and urban planners.

André’s career in interior design was multifaceted. After graduating from interior design school, he was responsible for designing many of the buildings and offices used by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), including  administrative and executive offices, and spaces used by high level ministers including  past governor generals Roméo LeBlanc, Adrienne Clarkson and Michaëlle Jean.

A champion of Canadian interior design, André was the president of APDIQ from its founding in 2003 to 2012, and served on its board until 2014. During his time as president, his oversaw APDIQ’s integration as a provincial association of IDC, and was responsible for creating the “Designer d’intérieur certifié APDIQ®” certification.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
