Bringing Canadian interior design to Milan – 2014 Salone Internazionale del Mobile

Published by Julia Salerno, April 30, 2014.

This year, Salone del Mobile invited five Canadian interior designers, IDC’s President, CEO and IIDEX liaison to the fair to explore opportunities for Canadians and Italians to learn, network and explore business opportunities.

Salone del Mobile is an international home furnishing fair, drawing visitors from all over the world who wish to experience the best of both Italian and global design.

The IDC delegation was overwhelmed by the 24 exhibit halls and displays throughout the city.  Having enjoyed the international pavilion, the board is working towards bringing a Canadian pavilion to the show in the future to showcase the talent and unique perspective of Canadian manufacturing.

Our very own President and IDIBC member, Ada Bonini of BYU Design Inc., and ARIDO member, Caroline Robbie of Quadrangle Architects, were both caught on camera speaking about the presence of Italian design in Canada!

Sharon Martens of MartensGroup and an IDA and ARIDO member, appreciated the opportunity to explore the Italian market – “Salone brings together the best of international design. It offers a unique opportunity for Canadian interior designers to be exposed to European design and share their expertise with the global design community. As IDC delegates, we were fortunate in that the event planners arranged for guided tours of a number of manufacturers and products, providing us with an overview of the new lines for 2014.”

IDC wishes to thank the fair for another stellar year of design and hospitality at the show. We are looking forward to attending once again from April 14 to 19 in 2015!
