trevorIDC President Ada Bonini, CEO Susan Wiggins, and IFI Nominee Trevor Kruse were pleased to join the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate its 50th anniversary during their general assembly. IFI brings together interior architecture/design organizations and the global community in order to further the positive impact of the design of interiors; to promote global social responsibility; and to raise the status of the discipline and profession worldwide.

During this year’s general assembly, the IFI Fellowship was established to recognize and acknowledge exemplary international achievement within the interior architecture/design profession and to honor those who lead, connect, inspire, enrich and influence the interior architecture/design profession in significant and outstanding ways.

On stage at the IFI 50th Anniversary Awards Gala, held the evening of May 2nd at the Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, hosted by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), the IFI Fellowship recipients were acknowledged by Shashi Caan, IFI President (2009-2014) and members of the 2011-2014 IFI Executive Board.

claudeAmong the recipients was Claude Bérubé (pictured left with IDC President, Ada Bonini) – the only Canadian to receive the distinction. Claude was the President of the Interiors Designers of Québec (SDIQ) for three years and of IDC for three  years as well. He was also the president of the Association of Industrial Designers of Québec (ADIQ). Claude is the founding president of the Asia Pacific Design Center (APDC) and served as the director of communication, president-elect and the president of IFI between 1989 to 1997. During his term, he developed an international marketing plan, secured the membership one of the largest countries in the world, India, and the majority of the Asian Countries where he was active.

Additionally, IDC’s Trevor Kruse was appointed to the 2014-2015 IFI Executive Board (pictured above). Trevor has worked tirelessly throughout his career to advance the profession of interior design on both a national and international scale. Trevor served as President for the provincial association ARIDO. When he was President of ARIDO, he worked with the President of IIDA to expand their Canadian membership in Ontario. Trevor was the first Canadian to receive IIDA’s Leadership Award, currently sits as an International Director on the Board of the Society of British Interior Designers (SBID), and has also been a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) for several years.

Trevor replaces David Hanson who has served on the IFI Board for the past four years. IDC thanks David for his contributions to IFI on behalf of the Canadian interior design community.

The primary work of the new IFI Executive Board over the next 17 months will be to develop the regional / territories’ model presented by the 2011-2014 Board in conjunction with the IFI Strategic Planning Committee (IFI SPC). This necessary structural change presented in conjunction with the celebration of IFI’s 50th anniversary reflects the changing discipline of Interior Architecture/Design and is an opportunity for organizational transformation.
