Updates to Fit-up Standards: Technical Reference Manual 2012

Published by Rachael Factor, May 30, 2012.

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) recently announced that the Fit-up Standards: Technical Reference Manual has been updated. The revised version is called the Government of Canada Workplace 2.0 Fit-up Standards and incorporates changes related to the framework for Office Accommodation and Accommodation Services - Space Allocation Standards and Workplace 2.0. Please note, this is effective on all new PWGSC projects, with the possible exception of grandfathered projects or those in the working drawings stage.

Workplace 2.0 provides the foundation for the revised fit-up standards and is based on: the workplace, the back office and the way we work. The objective is to modernize the workspace, update policies, processes and systems that support public servants in their work, and provide for the latest technologies to allow them to connect, collaborate and communicate across government and with Canadians.

The Space Standards Modernization initiative involves the transformation and modernization of federal government workplaces to reflect the current industry trend in office accommodation. This translates into workplace that includes flexible collaborative space and smaller workstations that integrate new technologies and reflect worker profiles.

The Space Recapture initiative will reduce departmental space envelopes as reductions of FTEs occur, resulting in a reduction of office accommodation requirements. New space allocation standards and the revised Government of Canada Workplace 2.0 Fit-up Standards are being implemented as occupancy instruments expire.

As Workplace 2.0 evolves, PWGSC will revise the Government of Canada Workplace 2.0 Fit-up Standards as required. The government of Canada Workplace 2.0 Fit-up Standards will be available on the PWGSC website in the coming months.
