The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recently announced the winners of the association's first annual Global Excellence Awards, an international interior design competition honouring the best in interior design projects from around the world. Truly global in scope, the winners of the competition were chosen from a pool of design firms from 21 different countries. The "Best of Competition" winner will be revealed and all winners will be celebrated at a special presentation during Maison&Objet, January 2011 in Paris, France.

The 2010 winners were chosen from projects submitted in ten practice areas: Corporate Space Large, Corporate Space Small, Cultural/Institutional/Educational, Healthcare, Hotels, Municipal/Public Spaces, Residences, Restaurants, Retail, and Spas/Fitness/Wellness Centers.

Congratulations to Mitchell Freedland Design, located in Vancouver, for being the only Canadian firm to win an award. Their winning project, Beach Front Residence, won in the Best of Category. Canadian interior designer, Dan Menchions, principal of II by IV Design Associates in Toronto, participated as one of four competition judges.
