IDC responds to your questions about provincial sales tax laws

Published by Julia Salerno, January 30, 2012.

IDC members have been asking about paying Ontario sales tax on services that we provide. Here's our response to your questions:

IDC must abide by provincial tax laws whereby residents and non-residents of Ontario purchasing goods or services from IDC must pay HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) at a rate of 13%. The HST came into effect in Ontario in June 2010 and follows New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia who implemented the tax in 1997. British Columbia launched HST at the same time that Ontario's was launched. For more information on HST, visit

In addition, for IDC webinars, attendees must pay Ontario HST, however for seminars taking place in-person, attendees must pay the provincial sales tax applicable for the province in which the seminar is taking place. For questions about paying taxes on IDC goods and services, contact IDC's Manager, Accounting, Tony Sienes at
