IDC honours volunteers at IDC/IIDA Toronto Leaders Breakfast

IDC and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) presented Lynn McGregor, Principal, McGregor Design Group, and Peter Grimley, Owner, Grimley & Associates, with the prestigious Leadership Award of Excellence for 2014. The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the interior design industry, was presented at the eighth annual IDC/IIDA Leaders Breakfast, on December 3 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre as part of IIDEXCanada. Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Cameron Bailey, delivered the keynote address.

In addition to receiving this esteemed award, Lynn and Peter were each given a personalized certificate from Premier Kathleen Wynne that congratulated them on their hard work for the profession and included a sincere message from the Premier stating that good interior design is transformative – it improves our homes and our work environments, supports our health and well-being, and elevates the very quality of our lives.

"I can’t think of more deserving and tenacious individuals than this year’s honourees,” said IDC CEO, Susan Wiggins. “Lynn and Peter have represented the design community to government and stakeholders for more than two decades, and they have done so with more conviction and enthusiasm than anyone I have ever met.”

For more than 30 years, Lynn and Peter have worked towards the ultimate goal of practice legislation for the profession. In 1999, the two were instrumental in getting ARIDO (the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario) “Titles Act” legislation, and in 2006, their efforts got the practice act to second reading.

“We’ve dedicated a great deal of our time to this cause because we believe it’s essential to the evolution of the profession,” says Mr. Grimley. “Not only will government regulation formally authenticate that interior designers are guardians of the health, safety and welfare of the public, but it formally validates our role as professionals in the built environment.”

“I am humbled to be recognized by my professional association in this capacity,” says Ms. McGregor. “It is a great honour to share this distinction with my long-time friend and colleague.”

Peter was named an ARIDO Fellow in 2000, was president of ARIDO in 2007, and of the Interior Designers of Canada Foundation for many years. Lynn was named an ARIDO Fellow in 2000, and was president of ARIDO in 2006. In 2012 she was the recipient of Ryerson University’s Recognition of Achievement Award.
