IDC Board Approves Strategic Direction and Budget for 2014/15 Fiscal Year (July 1/14-June 30/15)

Published by Sarah Bradbury, July 30, 2014.

The IDC Board met for a day in April to renew the Association's Strategic Plan.  Board members spent half of the day in one of three working groups: emerging professionals, member communities and organizational sustainability - all identified as priorities for the coming year.  Each group was tasked with reviewing the influencing factors, challenges and goals for their strategic area. During the second half of the day, each group reported their findings and, together, the Board created a framework to move forward with refined and prioritized strategic goals.

The Finance Team then created a 2014/2015 balanced budget that incorporated the day's thinking.  At a second meeting last month, the Board approved the revised strategic plan and budget.  The Board and staff will now move into implementation mode using the plan and budget as guiding tools for the year.

Highlights of our priorities include:

  • A new communications strategy and increased programming for emerging professionals
  • Targeted advocacy initiatives including discussions with all levels of government and allied professional organizations
  • Implementation of a research project that demonstrates the value of hiring an interior designer
  • Creation of a finance committee to develop a multi-year financial model and plan
