Textile Museum of Canada
will preview their upcoming exhibition Marimekko, With Love, in the Textile Design Expo at IIDEX.  The exhibit is a retrospective look at the company’s origins and its role in shaping a new approach to living through fashion and design.  The evolution of the company’s creative philosophy and visual identity will be explored, highlighting textile and pattern design the Finnish design house has become renowned for. Founded in 1951 by visionary designer Armi Ratia and her husband Viljo, Marimekko sparked an international revolution in post-WWII pattern and textile production and captured a new philosophy based on the power of design in everyday life.

A groundbreaking Toronto design studio, Karelia was the first to introduce Marimekko along with other contemporary Finnish design to international audiences. Karelia’s founder – architect, interior and industrial designer Janis Kravis – developed a close relationship with Marimekko’s early creative minds. WHEN? Objects in the exhibition are primarily drawn from Karelia’s collections and archives developed during this rich period and speak to Marimekko’s enduring legacy in the dynamic world of fashion and design. Marimekko, With Love opens in January 2013 at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto.
