Exclusive session for Emerging Professional at IDIBC Vancouver Table Top

Being an Emerging Professional (EP) on November 13 was your ticket into an exclusive session! IDIBC and IDC planned a day full of beneficial opportunities to take their careers to the next level. EPs got the chance to meet designers, look at the latest, coolest products and learn how to brand themselves to potential employers.

First, EPs got an important industry update on the profession. Brenda Snaith, IDIBC Educator Chair, talked briefly about the changing education standards and what they mean to interior designers who are just starting out. These new standards will affect all interior designers across Canada, and Brenda made sure to emphasize that a Bachelor Degree is now the minimum requirement needed to become a full Registered Interior Designer.

Once that serious piece of business was out of the way, EPs heard from Tracy Renzullo, Marketing Instructor at BCIT & UBC, on how to build a professional brand. Nowadays, first impressions start well before you walk in the door to an interview, it is important to learn how to build an online profile and also to market yourself. Tracy gave tons of examples and provided attendees with tips on how to excel straight to the top of the pack. All the EPs were furiously writing every example and were excited to put it all to work!

Finally, participants put down their pens to check out the first-ever IDIBC Vancouver Table Top Show! There, they had the chance to meet with interior designers, industry representatives and browse the latest products from their industry. After a long day of learning, delicious food and door prizes were a huge bonus!
