IDC holds Annual Meeting at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada

IDC held its Annual Meeting on Friday, September 24, at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada, for the first time in the Association's history. The change from the usual spring date and rotating venues was deliberate. In future, the Annual Meeting will be held every fall in Toronto, so that members from across Canada can attend the meeting in conjunction with IIDEX.

As a result of the restructured association, individual practitioners who belong to provincial associations are now members of IDC. This means fully qualified members (those in the highest classification of membership) are now entitled to vote on matters related to the organization, including nominations and finances. Moving the Association's year-end to June allowed us to move the Annual Meeting to IIDEX in September-the one time when most interior design practitioners are in the same location and therefore the one time when we have the best opportunity to achieve quorum for our meeting. Or, so we thought! Unfortunately we did not achieve quorum, which is 15 per cent of all full voting members of the Association or, more specifically, 233 members. A total of 179 members were in attendance, either in person or by proxy, so we were very close, but not quite there. We did hold the meeting as scheduled, but we were unable to present any motions for approval.

There are several reasons we did not achieve quorum for this meeting. These include: a lack of knowledge among the membership about the change in meeting time and location; a lack of knowledge by the membership about their right to vote; and finally, the early morning time of the meeting. We have plans in place to correct all of these issues prior to next year's meeting. In the meantime, it is critical for us to carry out the voting process on the items presented at the meeting so we can move forward.

Within the next few weeks, each voting member will receive an online ballot to vote on three motions presented at the meeting. Background information on each item will be included, to ensure voting members are fully knowledgeable about the subject of the motions.

Over the next few months, we will continue to communicate the changes that have occurred as a result of the restructuring so that you are informed about how these changes affect you personally. One way you can stay informed is through IDConnections, your one stop communications resource from IDC.
