IDC Appoints Interim CEO

The IDC Board of Management is pleased to announce that Ron Hughes of Toronto has been appointed Interim CEO effective January 4, 2016.

Ron’s appointment comes after the recent resignation of Susan Wiggins, CEO. Susan will leave IDC on December 31 to become Senior Strategic Advisor of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) in Washington, DC. The Board announced on December 3 that it would begin an immediate search for an Interim CEO to manage the office and key strategic initiatives until a permanent replacement CEO has been found.

“We are very excited that Ron has accepted this position,” says Aandra Currie Shearer, IDC President. “In looking for our interim appointment, it was critical that the individual be known in the industry and also that they understood and would work to fulfill the strategic goals and priorities of IDC.”

Ron Hughes graduated from the Interior Design program at Ryerson in 1981. Since graduation however, Ron’s passion has been not as a practicing interior designer but as a marketing and sales professional supporting the industry. Ron’s career has included senior positions with Knoll, Inscape, Teknion and Interface. For several years, from 1994 to 2004, Ron was the president of Guildhall furniture, a custom fabrication shop for high-end cabinetry.

Ron served as the first director representing industry on the IDC Board from 2010 – 2012. During that time, Ron led a number of initiatives including the creation and adoption of a mock-up standard for interior designers use in sourcing systems furniture mock-ups.

“It was fortuitous that this position came about just as I was searching for a new opportunity”, says Ron Hughes. “I very much look forward to supporting the interior design profession by assisting the Board and staff in implementing the newly approved strategic plan”.

The Board will issue an RFP this week to a number of recruitment firms as the first step in the recruitment of a full time CEO. The schedule established for the search runs from January to August, 2016. The goal is to have a new CEO in place prior to the 2016 Annual Meeting.
