Contributing to the International Voice of the Interior Design Profession

Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) is very pleased to announce that, on the occasion of the 2011 IFI General Assembly, which took place on October 27-28 in Taipei, IDC Past President David Hanson was elected to the Executive Board of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) for 2011-2013.

IFI is the international federating body for Interior Architect/Design organizations, and acts as the global forum for the exchange and development of knowledge and experience, in worldwide education, research and practice. Mr. Hanson is currently Director of Interior Design for Gustavson Wylie Architects, in Vancouver, B.C. In his new role as member of the IFI Board, Mr. Hanson will have the opportunity to make an impact and support the interior design profession on an international level.

Driven by his passion and commitment to see interior designers get their due recognition as professionals, Hanson has been an active member of his professional association for almost 20 years. "I believe that our education and skill set are unique in the built environment, yet the value of our expertise is not fully understood," he explains. "IFI has made great strides forward in the last few years with initiatives such as the DFIE [Design Frontiers Interiors Entity a 5 phase global initiative and the IFI Interiors Declaration] and I am committed to using this momentum to foster future growth of the profession."

Mr. Hanson's over eighteen years of volunteer board involvement in leadership roles at local (IDIBC), national (IDC), international levels (NCIDQ and IIDA) and his subsequent familiarity with the issues that affect the interior design profession globally, promise to make Mr. Hanson a valuable director on the IFI board serving the global interiors community.

For the 2011-2013 IFI Board term, meetings will be structured so that the board can directly engage with regional and local members and designers, with Regional Members Meeting organized in Europe and Mexico, as well as design community engagements and participation in South Africa, Canada and the US. The IFI Executive board works hard to interface with the design community in as many ways as possible, with board activities including design juries, lectures and roundtable discussions and debates. Topical and substantive issues pervasive to interior architecture/design are actively discussed throughout the board term.
