30 countries to Support the World Summit + Congress of Architecture, Design and Planning to be held in Montréal in 2017
Building buzz for the World Summit + Congress planned for 2017 in Montréal was one of the goals of this one-of-a-kind operation in Taipei. The role of the Canadian delegation was to drum up support among the other national delegations attending the IDA Congress. "Our presence in Taipei ensured that Canada and Montréal scored points for 2017. We expect to reach our goal of garnering support from 30 countries between now and June," asserts Philippe Lamarre, President of the Société des designers graphiques du Québec (the Québec Society of Graphic Designers), and a member of the delegation. That support will help to rally the international graphic, industrial and interior design communities behind the organization of this global event. Additionally, the World Summit + Congress of Architecture, Design and Planning has received the official backing of the Mayor of Taipei and the Taiwan Design Center.

100,000 Visitors to Mission Design's Innovative Construction Cone Booth
Major Canadian and Québec design projects were showcased in a 2,000-square-foot trade show booth designed by Montréal studio Paprika. A clever concept based on construction cones, incorporating light boxes with images and video sequences of the projects - includign ten interior design projects submitted by IDC members. The stand was one of the most-visited at the Taipei World Design Expo. "More than 100,000 people, and many journalists, had a chance to view the various projects," explained Alain Dufour, Executive Director of Mission Design. "The booth was an opportunity to show off our design savoir faire, but also to position Montréal as the host city of the first-ever World Summit and Congress of architecture, design and planning in 2017, an event that will have significant economic returns.

Promising Commercial Connections
Mission Design and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation du Québec (the Québec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade) leveraged the opportunity to organize a trade mission representing seven design-driven Québec businesses in Taipei. The mission brought made-in-Québec design expertise to an international context, positioning them on new markets. "This mission allowed us to meet with more than 25 Taiwanese companies and senior civil servants, as well as bolster our relationships with local clients," noted Jean Beaudoin of the firm INTEGRAL Jean Beaudoin. "The market for design in Asia has entered a new phase of maturity, and the multidisciplinary, multicultural approach of Québec designers has a major role to play there."

The Taipei operation, co-ordinated by Mission Design, was made possible with the financial support of the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation du Québec and the Ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire (Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy), as well as Tourisme Montréal, the Palais des congrès de Montréal and Montréal International.
