New IDC award to honour Canadian interior design researchers

IDC and Milliken partner for new award to highlight the achievements
of Canadian researchers in interior design.

IDC has partnered with Milliken to help bring more prominence to Canadian interior design researchers through the Interior Design Research Award. The award will recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence and innovation through interior design research, including that conducted at the masters or doctorate level, and through major projects by final-year students.

IDC’s Interior Design Research Award will open for entries in late spring and will be judged by a panel of industry professionals from across Canada. A $5,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner in the practitioner/educator category, and a $2,500 cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the student category. Both prizes will be sponsored by Milliken.

“Milliken’s generosity helps us highlight the importance of research as a tool in the interior design process,” says IDC CEO, Susan Wiggins. “Evidence-based design improves the quality of design solutions and enhances the health, safety and welfare of the public. We couldn’t be more excited to acknowledge Canada’s best based on these merits.”

Award-winning entries must prove their relevance to the profession, define their scope, exhibit integrity, and outline the potential impact the research has on the profession or the human experience.

Milliken is deeply rooted in science, research and development, and this partnership speaks to the company’s shared beliefs in the importance of research to drive the design and architecture industries forward.

“Continuous research on the impact and influence of interior design is critical to the future of our industry,” says Stacy Walker, Global Director of Customer Experience for the Milliken Global Floor Covering Division. “It uses proven results to help determine what ‘good design’ truly means, so that our work is as relevant as possible.”

Walker goes on to say: “IDC’s Design Research Award aligns with our continuous pursuit of innovations that ‘do good’ for our world. We honour the inquisitive nature to discover the path to meaningful design through research.”
