WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT DESIGN
    10:30 - 11:30 a.m.|1 IDCEC hour

What DO we talk about when we talk about design? More often than not, the word "design" is used to describe some sort of nebulous process that ends up with an image, a plan, a product, a building - something material. However, the function that design ends up playing in our lives is necessarily a social one. Those images, objects, or buildings will always make us feel or behave in specific ways, and in doing so, they coax us into relating with one another in specific ways. Most of us understand the idea of starting the design process with the material or the technical and letting the social aspect take care of itself, but what does design look like, and how does it work when we start with the social, before moving toward the material?

    PRESENTER: CALEB BEYERS, CASTE PROJECTS

Over the past 7 years, he has developed some of Victoria's most distinctive and memorable brands and interior spaces. An avid cyclist and mental health advocate, he recently started the cycling brand Convoy.
