    SEMINAR SCHEDULE

    APPLICATION OF BUILDING CODE AND
THE UNIFORM BUILDING AND ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS ACT

    9 -10 a.m.| 1 IDCEC hour (HSW)

Brush up your Building Code expertise with this useful refresher session from an expert in all aspects of National Building Code. Topics covered will include how to effectively determine the correct classification of buildings, where those buildings fit into the NBCC, and which sections of the Building Code will practically apply and to which projects.

    PRESENTER: CHRIS GATES, BUILDTECH INSPECTIONS.

Chris Gates is owner and principal consultant for Martensville-based BuildTECH Consulting and Inspections Inc. The company is actively involved in providing Building Code enforcement services for municipalities seeking to fulfill their duty of care obligation to citizens and visitors alike, while correspondingly reducing their risk of liability. Chris brings extensive expertise in guiding designers, property development companies and municipalities through the entire project cycle, from plan examinations to on-site inspections, as well as fair and consistent Building Code enforcement. He is well-versed in developing and delivering efficient reporting systems to keep project teams on track, and ensuring accurate, recorded documentation is developed, reducing the risk of future liability.

    BUILDING CODE - COMMERCIAL RENOVATIONS
    10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.| 1 IDCEC hour (HSW)

During this seminar, presenter Chris Gates will explain how to determine when building permits are required, and the impact of renovations. Drawing on practical examples, he will expand on the pre-planning required before many common design considerations such as moving doors or walls, and the potential risks presented through not correctly determining the potential implications for fire separation. He will also address the impacts of change of occupancy types, and the corresponding pre-planning required - for example, might revised occupancy loads, washroom requirements and the need for upgraded fire alarm systems exist?

    PRESENTER: CHRIS GATES, BUILDTECH INSPECTIONS.

USING SOCIAL MEDIA FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
    1 - 2 p.m.| 1 IDCEC hour

The internet is one of the best things to happen to designers because of it’s powerful branding and marketing potential for the visual “ideas” industry. But with all of the options and clutter online, it’s difficult to determine which channels are right for your business, and how to use them to effectively build a brand and fill your well of customers. In this seminar, Daria will dissect the online tools available to you, and focus on how to maximize results by applying the principals of effective marketing.

PRESENTER: DARIA MALIN, BOOST STRATEGIC COACHING

Daria Malin is the owner of Boost Strategic Coaching. She is an advisor to business owners and sales professionals, navigating with them through their business development activities including marketing, branding, and sales.
