    Manitoba Design Exposition and Catch up on CEUs - up to 6 IDCEC hours (5 HSW)

    The MDE is a one-day trade show targeted towards the design community of Manitoba, sponsored by the PIDIM. The focus of the show is to showcase the latest products and services available and provide an opportunity to bring the design and vendor communities together for an informal, social gathering that includes valuable education. This event represents a valuable great opportunity to network with industry professionals and showcase the newest products.

    The presentation will touch on the most common types of Construction Contracts, The Hierarchy of Construction and Contract Documents, Components of a Project Manual and their functions, Specifications: Master Format and Divisions. The layout of a spec section and what should be included. The pitfalls of unclear Specifications and what to look out for and Contract Administration Documents and their functions.

    Brenda Thompson is the Education Chair for the Winnipeg Chapter of CSC (Construction Specifications Canada). Through CSC she has taken the Principles of Construction Documentation, Specifier 1 and Specifier 2 courses.  She has been with ft3  Architecture Landscape Interior Design for almost 9 years, prepares all of the Contracts for projects for the office, acts as Specification Coordinator and work in the Contract Administration Department dealing with all aspects of Construction Contract Documentation.

    In 2013 the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA) revised its Ergonomics Guideline to reflect the changing shape and size of the North American adult population. Learn about the revisions and tips on using the Guideline to evaluate, specify and purchase office furniture. 

    Presenter: Lucy Hart, Global Total Office

    Lucy is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist with over 25 years’ experience guiding public and private organizations in the application of ergonomics to enhance employee well-being and productivity. For the majority of her career she has focused on office environments. Lucy actively contributes to the development and maintenance of standards and guidelines including the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Guideline on Office Ergonomics and the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA) Ergonomics Guideline. She is the Chair of the CSA Technical Committee on Office Ergonomics, Chair of the BIFMA Ergonomics Subcommittee and a peer- elected Educationally Influential Ergonomist as recognized by the Institute for Work and Health. 


    Specifying Architectural Door Opening Egress Solutions

    After completion of this course, participants will be able to identify the basic components of an architectural door opening; identify the various exit device types applied to meet egress requirements for commercial doors; understand where exit devices are required and why; and provide solutions to access and egress problems by properly applying exit devices.

    This presentation will give tips to navigating the City's Permit System: review of the Interior Alteration Design Summary and proposed changes, Manager's tips, Occupancy Permit Issue.

    Presenter: Stan Dueck, City of Winnipeg

    Stan Dueck, BA, MBA - is the Manager of the City of Winnipeg's Development and Inspections Division of the Department of Planning, Property and Development.  In 2012, Stan led the City's permits and inspections team through the development of a comprehensive Building Permits Strategy and Action Plan. Stan brings to this role extensive experience with system improvement in both the private and public sectors. He believes that value-added and sustainable system improvement is based on collaboration, as well as ongoing measurement and accountability. Stan has worked for the City for 8 years, and prior to his current role, he was the Manager, Housing Development where he engaged in administering housing programs relating to affordable housing, neighbourhood revitalization and the vacant building strategy.  He also coordinated the City’s efforts in the development of the Downtown Residential Development Strategy and the Downtown grant program financed through incremental property taxes.
