    SEMINAR SCHEDULE

Ontario Building Code and January 2015 Barrier-Free Changes
    2 IDCEC hours (HSW) | 9:45 - 11:45 a.m.

The 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC) regulation came into effect on January 1, 2014. This regulation contains important changes to barrier-free accessible design requirements that took effect January 1, 2015. This seminar will summarize the key design criteria for barrier-free design Code changes, which were the result of recommendations received through the development of the built environment requirements, forming part of the AODA. Participants will be provided with highlights of significant code changes that will primarily focus on common design elements, such as path of travel throughout a building, washroom requirements, fixed seating, and controls/devices. Additionally, this seminar will provide an overview of the new Built Environment Standard, as applicable to buildings.

2010 NBC Hardware and Interior Finishes
    1 IDCEC hour (HSW) | 12:45 - 1:45 p.m.

    Level: Intermediate

This one-hour seminar summarizes two technical subjects from the 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBC) including an overview of the basic requirements applicable to security hardware for doors including code requirements, basic operation of electric strikes and mag-locks, and where it is appropriate to use each device. Also covered is an overview of interior finish requirements including flame spread ratings, smoke developed classifications, and permitted combustible finish materials when located within a building required to be of non-combustible construction. The differences between the ASTM-E84 and the ULC-S102 test methods and some of the key differences in the test protocol to determine the ratings.  Fire Code requirements for specific textiles will also be reviewed.

Space Planning Requirements Based on the 2010 NBC
    1 IDCEC hour (HSW) | 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

    Level: Intermediate

This one hour presentation will provide an overview of the primary egress and fire protection requirements based on the 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBC). Topics covered are considered to reflect the common application requirements for multiple tenant floor areas focusing on office occupancies, and include pertinent definitions of NBC terms, fire separations, public corridors, suite egress, travel distance, cross-over provisions, and barrier-free protection on a floor area.
