    The Ontario Building Officials Association and City of Kitchener are pleased to provide two Building Code presentations to interior designers.



    Navigating the OBC
    1 IDCEC hour | 9 - 10:30 a.m.

    This presentation will focus on reviewing the regulatory authority including topics such as the permit application process, the importance of OBC matrix and changes after permit issuance. The review will highlight items that will equip designers to be informed and to support a smooth permit process that should benefit the designer and their client(s).

    The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) announced by provincial government created a Built Environment category. The Built Environment category reviewed changes to enhance barrier free requirements to achieve AODO goals and objectives. The goal is achieved through the Building Code as new buildings are built including additions and renovations are completed. The OBC is the driver for these enhanced barrier free changes such as increased clear width for doors. This presentation will highlight a number of these types of changes that designers need are aware of to be successful.

    Presenter : Mike Seiling, Director of Building & Chief Building Official for the City of Kitchener and President of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA)

    Mike has 28 years of construction experience in both the private and public sectors, including 23 years with the City of Kitchener Building Division and five years with a local Architect.  He is a graduate of Conestoga College in the Construction Engineering Technical Program and is a Certified Building Code Official with the OBOA.  Mike is routinely sought out for input on both technical and practical issues including Public Consultations and guest speaking at the Association of Architects Admission Course. As Director of Building for the City of Kitchener, he is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Building Code. He is presently serving as OBOA President, a non-profit association that advocates and educates building officials to support public safety.
