    As we age, the physical and aesthetic manners in which we see are altered. A mature eye requires more light to function while being increasingly more sensitive to glare. The session will discuss some of the physiologies of this change and explore avenues to combat the changes in both institutional and residential applications. Awareness, empathy, and knowledge are the keys to lighting solutions for the aging eye.

    The Information, Knowledge, and Techniques to Help Navigate the Truths, Myths, Misconceptions and Lies about LEDs (1IDCEC hour)
    LED technology has been rapidly advancing and has offered exciting new options in providing illumination for many applications. There is a systems approach to the manufacture of LED luminaire which requires an understanding of the performance benefits, allowing the lighting specifier to separate myths from realities when applying LED luminaires to their applications.

    Lighting for Merchandising Areas (1IDCEC hour)
    Lighting is an important contributor to the retail environment. The lighting design informs the consumer of the corporate image as well as price point and target audience. Utilizing various lighting techniques and choosing the correct luminaires are essential in providing illumination while meeting more and more strict power density regulations.

    Speaker: Tom Butters, LC

    Tom is the senior manager, Philips Lighting Education, Lighting Certified by NCQLP (National Qualifications for the Lighting Professions), and member of IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America). Tom is a certified lighting facilitator with Philips since 1997. Tom has made numerous lighting application presentations for ARIDO and the IESNA as well as day-to-day seminars at the Philips Lighting Concept Centre. Tom is the vice president of Toronto's IES Section and a 2011 winner of IES Toronto's Mentorship Award.
