    SEMINAR #1: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
    From Specification to Reality: Specification Writing using the AWS 2nd Edition (2 IDCEC hours)

    This two-hour session will offer an overview of the manual layout, then dive right into the steps necessary to specify architectural woodwork. The presenters will walk through the specification process using the new AWMAC Specification Guide, while referencing the AWS. This will be a hands-on experience, so bring your pens as there are example specification sheets to fill out.

    Attendees will learn about:

    • Passage doors and frames, including solid wood, veneer, plastic laminate, and core materials;
    • Casework materials and methods;
    • The key differences between economy, custom and premium grades, and the advantages of different material choices;
    • Hardware, hinges and door slides, including specifying for institutional work.

    PRESENTER: Harm Hazeu, Senior Estimator, F.C. WoodWorks Inc.

    Harm has served on the AWMAC Manitoba Chapter in various positions, including President, for over 20 years.  Harm is currently the Past President and National Director for the Manitoba Chapter and was awarded the "Outstanding Service Award" from National AWMAC Board in 2011.  Harn joined F.C. Woodworks over ten years ago and is their senior estimator.

    The Search and Understanding for Specialty Hardware (2 IDCEC hours)

    This two-hour seminar will help attendees find the ideal and most current specialty hardware that will ensure successful project management with less stress and greater ease.  Stay on top of the latest hardware trends, find out where specialty hardware is moving to and how to find the answers regarding “new to the market” products.

    Attendees will learn:

    • How to choose specialty hardware in both residential and commercial applications (hinges, decorative hardware, lighting and more);
    • How to choose the right hardware for the job and how to communicate effectively to your hardware supplier;
    • About security hardware, the options and considerations required for commercial and residential projects;
    • About mobility limited hardware solutions.

    David is currently the sales manager for Richelieu Hardware, a North American leader in the importing and distribution of specialty hardware and complementary products. He is uniquely qualified for this position and has been wildly successful in his previous roles as sales representative for Richelieu Hardware and other kitchen and bathroom manufacturers creating lasting professional relationships along the way. David’s unique qualifications stem from him being a journeyman cabinet maker for more than twenty years, as well as owning his own contracting and renovation company performing the smallest of renovations all the way up to custom home building.
