IDC Tour: St. George’s Chapel, Toronto (1 non-IDCEC hour)

chapel.jpgLocated within the Cathedral of St. James, St. George’s Chapel is dedicated to The Royal Regiment of Canada, an infantry unit with three companies in Canada’s Army Reserve and the recipient of 66 battle honors in World Wars I and II.

Fire had destroyed the original chancel, forcing a fresh approach to worship in the context of the historic Cathedral. Care was taken to avoid competing with the Neo-Gothic architecture that dominates the 550-square-foot chapel — a 40-foot ceiling, stained glass windows, and a north window looking into the Cathedral.

This ASID Award winning project is characterized by acute attention to design details and the historical accuracy of the final solution that blends seamlessly with existing design features of the chapel.
