IDC Webinar: Accessible Residential Design — Interior Access (1 IDCEC hour: HSW)

Construction and design professionals must lead the way when it comes to creating living spaces that are in demand both now and in the future. Through this webinar series on accessible residences, attendees will gain valuable information and design advice on creating accessible, sustainable and affordable housing options for aging Canadians to enjoy.

Incorporating universal and age-friendly design into residential construction projects results in homes and dwellings designed and constructed to accommodate the diversity of age and ability. Accessible homes will better meet the changing needs of our aging society.  This webinar takes a thorough approach to introduce accessibility considerations that are critical to entering and moving within interior spaces.

During each session, attendees will be able to download "take away" resources.

    Topics covered will include:

    • Review of disability-related concerns in residential interior contexts
    • Foundations of universal design theory
    • Visitability and lifespan housing concepts
    • Space planning criteria for accessibility
    • Materials and mechanicals selection and placement
    • Accessibility requirements and considerations for: entrances; hallways and doorways; stairs and vertical access (elevators, stair lifts); windows; lighting and more

NOTE: This webinar was previously offered on April 11, 2013.
