    Join IDIBC's Okanagan Chapter for the Design Exchange CEU Day and Table Top Show 2013, an event that brings you three CEUs and a table top show all in one location. Connect with manufacturers and suppliers, fellow interior designers, architects and others from the builing industry on May 15, 2013.

    9:30 to 10 a.m. | Registration and continental breakfast

    10 a.m. to 12 noon | How to make sure you're specifying and getting great architectural woodwork
    (2 IDCEC hours)

    In this two hour seminar, attendees will learn about AWMAC's role in helping your projects turn out fantastic! Topics covered include: the pre-tender document review; shop drawing review; mock-up and post-installation inspection; deficiency report; follow up and the guarantee on certified work performed by AWMAC member companies. Find out how woodwork projects can get off track, how to avoid the most common pitfalls and how to choose a manufacturer most suited to your project.

    In additon, attendees will review the attributes of specifying woods, panels, finishes and hardware by using generic methodology and referencing the Architectural Woodwork Standards to specify cabinets and paneling materials. Bring your pens; no pencils or erasers are needed - it's a learning experience not at test!

    Jim Taylor, Past President, AWMAC BC 
    Jim has led Seagull Enterprises Ltd., a manufacturer in Vancouver, British Columbia, in cooperation with design professionals, to deliver custom architectural woodwork for the hospitality, corporate, institutional and private clients in Canada and the United States. He brings his thirty years of award winning woodwork experience and his knowledge of the architectural woodworking community as Past President of Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) and an active participant with the two US associations, Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) and Woodwork Institute (WI). He currently sits on the Joint Standards Committee that wrote the first common Architectural Woodwork Standard for North America and is writing the second edition, which will be published in the fall.

    Martin Berryman, Vice-President, AWMAC BC
    Martin has been involved in architectural woodwork since 1987, and in a management role since 1992. He has been on the Board of Directors of AWMAC BC since 2010, and now serves as Vice-President and chair of the Membership Compliance Committee. He is co-owner of Wanes Custom Woodworks Inc. in Burnaby, B.C., where for almost 20 years he has been helping designers who have become frustrated with being told their ideas don't make sense, or that their project cannot be built as drawn. Martin has worked with dozens of designers to transform their visions and ideas into tangible, functional creations including everything from sleek modern design to traditional mouldings and paneling. Wanes is a team of 25 craftsmen with diverse skill sets and backgrounds utilizing the latest technology in 3D laser site measurement, CNC machinery and high-tech, low VOC adhesives and finishes.

    1:15 to 2:15 p.m. | Tile and Stone Specification Overview
    (1 IDCEC hour, 1 LU)

    This one hour seminar will inform attendees about selecting tile and stone and their attributes, including life cycle flooring costs, care and maintenance, technical specifications, and how to achieve LEED points using tile.

    Speaker: Curt Higham, CCTS, Ames Tile and Stone
    Curt has 35 years of industry experience and 28 of those years has been spent with Ames Tile and Stone. As a Dale Carnegie graduate, Curt has obtained his CCTS (Certified Ceramic Tile Salesperson) and his TTMAC (Understanding Ceramic Tile). Curt is responsible for developing product training programs and training of more than 100 staff at multiple locations and sourcing and recommending new and specialty products for commercial projects.

    2:30 to 3:30 p.m. | Pinterest and the A&D Community: Sharing & Inspiring in a Digital World
    (1 IDCEC hour, 1 LU)

    This course introduces participants to Pinterest, one of the fastest growing social media sites, is a virtual pinboard where users collect, organize and share images of the things they find interesting. It is a great tool for the A&D industry, as it embraces a visual and creative process.  Learning objectives include: Learn a general overview of Pinterest, the site’s history and impact on society. View the A&D community’s presence on Pinterest. Explore how the A&D industry is using Pinterest to further creativity and design work. Learn how to register on Pinterest, organize boards, pin and share images and demonstrate pin etiquette.  Learn how Pinterest can serve as an endless source of inspiration and help you connect and share ideas in the ever-evolving architecture and design industry.

    Bob has been with Milliken Carpets for more than 18 years. He has been providing products and services to the A&D Community for more than 25 years having started his career in Montreal in the office furniture industry. In addition Bob also coaches and mentors numerous sales people and has been on the board of directors with the International Facility Managers Association BC Chapter for many years.
