This seminar is suitable for individuals who have limited understanding of the building code or who are not comfortable or confident using it. Registration for Seminar #3 with Coffee: 3:30 – 4 p.m.

Seminar #3: 4 to  5 p.m.  DESIGN AND THE BRAIN (1 ARIDO CEU)

This presentation will discuss the results of a recent functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) study looking at the impact of various design features (e.g. contour, ceiling height, etc.) on judgments of beauty for spaces, and decisions to enter and/or exit spaces. Correspondingly, the impact of variations in these features on brain function was studied. The aim of this research is to gain a better understanding of the ways in which the brain responds to variations in design features. Attendees will gain an understanding of the brain’s sensitivities to architectural variations and how they relate to behaviour.
