2:15 to 3:15 p.m. | Living Through the Challenge: a Contractor’s Perspective on the Living Building Challenge (0.1 IDCEC CEU)

The Living Building Challenge has quickly become the most advanced green building rating system in the world. Creating living buildings requires a fundamentally different approach to building design, construction and operations. To meet the challenge - buildings must generate their own energy, harvest and treat their own water and use only non-toxic and locally sourced materials. As constructors of two living buildings - the New Visitor Centre at VanDusen Botanical Garden and SFU UniverCity Childcare Centre , the presenter, Marsha Gentile, will discuss the challenge of turning ideas into reality as she shares lessons learned in the successful delivery of LBC projects.

Marsha Gentile, CSBA, LEED AP BD+C, Construction Sustainability Specialist, Ledcor Construction Limited
Marsha is the Construction Sustainability Specialist at Ledcor Construction Limited. She graduated from the National Sustainable Building Advisors program where she now teaches the Sustainability in Construction module. Marsha has a decade of hands-on experience with LEED projects across the country and is presently involved in the SFU UniverCity Childcare Facility which is pursuing Living Building Status. She has been actively involved in lecturing, teaching and volunteering across North America presenting a “Lessons Learned” approach to LEED and sustainable construction. Marsha recently received the VRCA’s Educator of the Year award for her contribution to the advancement of education in relation to the construction industry.
