    OAA Seminar: Energy Efficiency Requirements for Housing

    The new 2012 energy efficiency requirements for housing became mandatory on January 1st 2012. The introduction of Supplementary Standard SB-12 in addition to the existing EnerGuide 80 (ERS80) compliance paths in the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC) will require extensive training for the industry to ensure seamless transition to the new rules. The new 2012 energy efficiency requirements are radically different from those in force in the past. The new requirements introduce new concepts, new compliance routes and computer modelling options. This workshop will update architects’ on the published energy efficiency requirements in SB-12 of the OBC.

    Mr. Lio is completely familiar with Ontario’s 2012 Building Code energy efficiency provisions. He is a Code trainer having delivered the Part 9 of the House training program since 1989 to thousands builders and building officials. Mr. Lio has developed and delivered a long list of training courses, including courses for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Canadian Home Builders Association, the Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada, and others.

    Last year, Mr. Lio worked with the Ministry to develop the most significant portion of the 2009 interim amendments adopted within the Code. He is working with builders across Ontario on the implementation of the new energy efficiency requirements of the Code.

    Mr. Lio has delivered tailored 2012 Code workshops with emphasis on the new SB-12 energy efficiency provisions to Enbridge Inc., Union Gas, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario Office, TARION Warranty Corporation and a number of building officials and builders.
