    Hear from the principals of four independent design firms as they discuss why they chose to go it alone. Learn how they have found a balance in developing a successful business, while still maintaining a strong sense of creativity. Discover what they have learned, and where they find inspiration.     Anicka Quin
    is the Editor-in-chief of Western Living magazine. Previously, she was managing editor at the environmental magazine Alternatives Journal, and editor-in-chief of id magazine, a Southwestern Ontario alternative weekly. She sits on the board of directors of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, and is a past recipient of Magazines Canada's Volunteer of the Year in BC.

    Michelle Biggar leads the interior design team at mgb. Michelle's work includes a wide range of project types from the hands-on crafting of our smaller projects to the design and project management of large scale, complex multi-user facilities. The breadth of Michelle's diverse portfolio ensures each project is offered exceptional, thoughtful and beautiful solutions that provide a seamless integration of architecture and interiors. Michelle is passionate about all facets of the design industry from architecture to branding, from art to landscape design. She believes in a holistic approach to these integrated disciplines to provide solutions that are thoughtful, elegant, innovative and timeless.

    An Interior Design graduate of the University of Manitoba, Sherry Bilenduke has been in practice since 1982. She was a principal of Triplan Inc. from 1988 - 2000 and merged with Victoria Horobin Interior Design to form KBH Interior Design. Sherry has extensive experience in all aspects of the design process with particular expertise in corporate offices and financial institutions. She has worked with architectural, engineering and construction firms all across Canada. Sherry is a member of the Council for Interior Design Accreditation Commission and has received the Louis S. Tregre Award from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. She and her business partner, Victoria Horobin contributed a chapter to "The State of the Interior Design Profession" edited by Martin & Guerin and published by Fairchild Books in 2010.

    Sharon Martens, principal of MartensGroup licensed interior design studio ltd., a full service interior design consulting firm offering responsive and innovative strategic planning, image and brand development, CADD services, project management, and facilities consulting services for corporate, commercial and hospitality interiors. Over the past 21 years, MartensGroup has developed a solid track record and the resources to manage a broad range of projects from inception through to final completion.
