This year, IDC is organizing its Industry Sales Professional course in three locations, starting with Calgary, Alta., which took place on May 28, 2019 and was generously hosted by Cosentino.

These courses are tailored exclusively to meet the needs of architecture and design industry sales professionals. In Calgary, the full-day course featured Q & A sessions with panels of registered interior designers and architects, with 19 architecture and design industry sales professionals in attendance.

The day began with a conversation with IDC’s team and design members: Glen Brewer, President, Midgley Tecnica, Dedre Toker, BES (ARCH), M.DES (ID), LEED AP, Principal Partner: Lemay, Krista E. Paine, RID, RSE, NCIDQ, Léa El Jawad, Account Manager at Cosentino. The session provided an opportunity for industry members to learn more about IDC and member benefits.

Glen Brewer, IDC board member and industry committee member, was the day’s moderator.

The schedule continued with a panel discussion that included boutique and residential design firms featuring Carly Gardener, Principal Interior Designer, studio | ru, Ursala Baig, Associate Interior Designer, Mckinley Burkart, IDC, IDA, BAID, NCIDQ, Ana Cummings, Owner & Principal, ANA Interiors, Kerri Peyton, Peyton Licensed Interior Design.

Large design and national account firms followed with a round table discussion, with invaluable feedback provided by panelists:  Margo Smith, Managing Director, Designsmith Inc., Michelle Nalder, Corporate Manager Store Development & Design|SportCheck/Marks/Canadian Tire, Angela Stinson, Director of Store Development, Simons, Dedre Toker, BES (ARCH), M.DES (ID), LEED AP, Principal Partner: Lemay.

Attendees also had an opportunity for one-on-one time with architects, David Down, Architect, Chief Urban Designer, City of Calgary and Jay Boyce, Architect, AAA, AIBC, MRAIC, Associate MTA | Urban Design Architecture Interior Design.

Former IDC board member, Kathy Johnston Umbach, shared her insight on the potential involvement of industry representatives in preparing or influencing different forms of contract and contact documents, the practical implementation within the construction procedure, specifications and typical project processes.

The next Industry Sales Professionals Course will be held in Halifax, N.S. on July 18, 2019.
