    GC WORKPLACE- THE EVOLUTION OF THE FEDERAL WORKPLACE

    The objective of this seminar is to learn how Government is transforming the public service through workplace design. Learn how GCworkplace is responding to an ever changing and modernized public service, all while supporting employee wellbeing.

    Véronique is currently the acting Manager of the Interior Design National Centre of Expertise with Workplace Solutions, Public Services and Procurement Canada. She has since been a leader in modernization and innovation for workplace design, participating in the creation of various tools to enable a Government wide workplace transformation. Since graduating with Honors from the Bachelor of Applied Arts – Interior Design program at Algonquin College in 2008, Véronique has acquired comprehensive design experience ranging from commercial design in Government settings to custom home design. Through all of her design projects, whether commercial or residential, she has always had a particular interest in how people interact with space and the strong correlation between the built environment and our wellbeing.

    CO-PRESENTER: JULIE JOCELYN, CHIEF INTERIOR DESIGNER/HEAD OF THE INTERIOR DESIGN DIVISION,  WORKPLACE SOLUTIONS, PSPC

    Julie Jocelyn is the GCworkplace Chief Interior Designer and head of the Interior Design Division of Workplace Solutions, Public Services and Procurement Canada.  She has worked as an NCIDQ certified Interior Designer with PSPC for the past 9 years. Prior to joining the public service, Julie worked for several years as an Interior Designer with a corporate design firm and as a professor in the Interior Design program at La Cité collégiale in Ottawa, Canada. Under Julie’s guidance, the Design Management team and Interior Design National Centre of Expertise is working to transform the Government of Canada workplace, by introducing user-centered design methodology and innovative workplace strategies.  Julie has been a leader in modernizing the federal public service experience as it relates to Interior Design.

    SHOP DRAWINGS
    10:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | 1 IDCEC hour 

    This presentation will outline why consultants typically request Shop Drawings and how Shop Drawings should be outlined in the Project Manual. . We will also examine the importance of correctly incorporating the procedural and contractual requirements in the Shop Drawings. The presentation will highlight some of the pitfalls that can occur when there are errors in the Shop Drawings and methods to avoid such errors.

    PRESENTER: TED KATSORIS, MORRISON HERSHFIELD

    Ted Katsoris is a Principal and Department Manager at Morrison Hershfield with over 25 years of combined contracting and consulting experience. He has extensive experience in the field of building science and building envelope repair/rehabilitation, as well as contract administration. Formally trained in the field of building science and project management, Ted has undertaken a wide variety of projects ranging from building envelope repairs, mechanical upgrades, and asbestos removal to the redesign of large landscape areas. Ted is also an active instructor with Construction Specifications Canada, where he teaches night school courses to professionals involved in specification writing and administration of constructions contacts. When asked, he is also a guest instructor at Ryerson University.

    COMMERCIAL SPACE PLANNING
    1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. | 1 IDCEC hour (HSW)

    During this presentation you will develop an overview of primary egress and fire protection requirements, based on the 2015 National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC).
    Familiarize yourself with the common application requirements for multiple tenant floor areas focusing on office occupancies, as well as pertinent definitions of NBC terms. Brush up your knowledge of fire separations, public corridors, suite egress, travel distance, cross-over provisions, security hardware, interior finishes, and barrier-free protection on floor areas.

    Lisa Miller-Way is the Director, Project Management with LRI –the largest wholly-Canadian owned engineering firm specializing exclusively in fire protection engineering, building and fire code consulting, and emergency planning services. She is a graduate of Conestoga College (Architecture Construction Engineering Technology), a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists [OACETT] and a member of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). In addition to over 15 years of expertise in Building Code and fire protection engineering gained on a wide variety of complex building projects, Lisa serves on the Ontario Building Code Commission.

    Shawn is Ottawa’s Branch Manager with LRI Engineering Inc. and a graduate from Algonquin College of Applied Arts - Fire Protection and Safety Technician - Ottawa, Ontario. He has 20 years experience in Fire Protection and Code Consulting; with LRI since 1999. Shawn is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians– Associate Member. Society of Fire Protection Engineers – National Capital Chapter President, 2013-15.
