    SEMINAR SCHEDULE

    DESIGN EVOLUTION: HOW PORCELAIN REVOLUTIONIZES THE COUNTERTOP WORLD 
    11 a.m.- 12 p.m. | 1 IDCEC hour

    Participants will learn about countertop/surfacing materials currently available and the materials functional and sustainable pros/cons associated with each material. The course describes the evolution of porcelain manufacturing methods and the benefits of the moldless pressing method, radial applications, exteriors and tile over tile. The course gives participants detailed information regarding the sustainability and wellness attributes associated with porcelain. The course explores other uses for porcelain beyond countertops and gives participants motivation and inspiration for their own projects.

    PRESENTER: GLEN BREWER, PRESIDENT, MIDGLEY TECNICA

    Glen Brewer is a Senior Entrepreneurial Executive with over 25 years experience in the tile, floor covering and construction-related industries. He is a recognized expert in the ceramic and porcelain tile sector, and brings extensive expertise gained in multiple industry fields including sales, finance, operations, and executive management. He has built several companies from the ground up, serving both existing and new markets, and is both company President of Midgley Tecnica and a member of several industry boards.

    SHOP DRAWINGS

    12 - 1 p.m. | 1 IDCEC hour

    This presentation will outline why consultants typically request Shop Drawings and how Shop Drawings should be outlined in the Project Manual. . We will also examine the importance of correctly incorporating the procedural and contractual requirements in the Shop Drawings. The presentation will highlight some of the pitfalls that can occur when there are errors in the Shop Drawings and methods to avoid such errors.

    PRESENTER: TED KATSORIS, MORRISON HERSHFIELD 

    Ted Katsoris is a Principal and Department Manager at Morrison Hershfield with over 25 years of combined contracting and consulting experience. He has extensive experience in the field of building science and building envelope repair/rehabilitation, as well as contract administration. Formally trained in the field of building science and project management, Ted has undertaken a wide variety of projects ranging from building envelope repairs, mechanical upgrades, and asbestos removal to the redesign of large landscape areas. Ted is also an active instructor with Construction Specifications Canada, where he teaches night school courses to professionals involved in specification writing and administration of constructions contacts. When asked, he is also a guest instructor at Ryerson University.


    TOUR OF LEGENDS ON THE NIAGARA

    Join us on a tour Led by Peter Berton Canadian Architect that designed The Legends On The Niagara. The clubhouse is situated on a man-made lake on the historic site of the War of 1812 – Battle of Chippawa, which occurred on July 5th, 1814. This facility was built to enhance tourism to the Niagara Golf Trail.

    Legends-on-the-Niagara features two 18 hole courses – “The Battlefield” by Doug Carrick and “Usher’s Creek” by Thomas McBroom. Usher’s Creek was the site of a pivotal battle on July 15th, 1814 where American forces won their first battle against the British in the war of 1812. Read more.

    After graduating from Carleton University in 1979, Peter joined the practice of renowned Canadian architect Ron Thom in Toronto. There, he learned an organic approach to design, creating homes and other buildings sympathetic to their natural surroundings that are environmentally conscious. After joining The Ventin Group in 1993 as Partner-in-Charge of the Toronto office, Peter carried out a series of projects in the municipal, institutional and recreational sectors. Notable projects include Legends-on-the-Niagara Golf Clubhouse, OslerBrook Golf Clubhouse, Wyndance Golf Clubhouse and Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Peter’s 40-year career has been celebrated with several design excellence awards including an OAA Award of Excellence and a City of Kingston Liveable City Award for the Goodes Hall Renovation and Addition at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, an OAA Award of Excellence for the restoration of the Lennox and Addington Courthouse, and a Toronto Historical Board Award for the conservation of Toronto Old City Hall.

     

     


    WINE TASTING WITH DESIGNERS
    3 - 3:30 p.m.

    Exhibitors and designers will participate in a structured tasting of local wines from Megalomaniac winery. Vines from this winery sit atop the highest point of the southern section of the Niagara Escarpment with limestone underneath. This combination makes these wines truly exceptional.
