    IDC Seminars: Vancouver - BC Building Code Review (up to 6 IDCEC hours HSW)

    9 to 9:30 a.m. Registration and Continental Breakfast

    9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Seminar #1: BC Building Code Review Basic Course (3 IDCEC hours - HSW)

    This three hour basic seminar will cover details around the BC Building Code. 

    The first hour will cover details on the following: 

    • Safety Within all Floor Areas (3.3.1) including suite to suite separations
      • Hazardous areas requiring additional protection (dusts, welding, laundry, janitor)
      • Sensitive areas requiring special protection (BF, special care)
      • Means of egress
      • Doors and doorways
      • Hardware
      • Door swing
      • Headroom
      • Corridors and public corridor separation
      • General safety – guards, transparent panels, obstructions.


    The second hour of this seminar will cover:

    • Safety Within Floor Areas (3.3.2. to 3.3.5.)
    • Assembly Occupancies (3.3.2.)
    • Health Care Occupancies (3.3.3.)
    • Residential Occupancies (3.3.4.)
    • Industrial Occupancies (3.3.5.)

     

    The third hour of this basic seminar will cover Exits (3.4). 

    Note: Attendees should bring their own personal copy of the 2012 British Columbia Code. Highlighters and post it notes are also recommended.

    12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Lunch and Registration for Seminar #2

    1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Seminar #2: BC Building Code Review Intermediate Course (3 IDCEC hours - HSW)

    The first part of this three hour seminar will cover Major Occupancies (3.1.2., 3.1.3.); including the Classification of Major Occupancies and Multiple Occupancy Requirements.

    In the next part Fire Separations and Fire Resistance Ratings (3.1.7., 3.1.8.) will be examined.

    In the final part of this seminar, Interconnected Floor Spaces (3.2.8.), Flame Spread Ratings, Interior Finishes and Fabrics (3.1.12., 3.1.13., 3.1.15.) will be reviewed.

    Leszek Muniak

    Leszek Muniak, of Sereca Larden Muniak Inc., has been ARIDO’s building code consultant for more than 10 years. Sereca Larden Muniak specializes in the development and presentation of building code-related seminars and courses. Les has acted as a consultant for hundreds of projects and a wide variety of clients. Many of these projects required the development of innovative fire protection and code compliance approaches for building rehabilitation and new construction. He has served on Ontario and national building code committees. Les has also developed fire-analysis computer techniques, conducted fire investigations, acted as a consultant for legal counsel, and developed and presented training courses.
