IDC Webinar: Cradle to Cradle: A Holistic Approach to Evaluating and Selecting Products for Human Health (1 CEU)

With an increasing focus on health and safety products, restricted substance lists changing frequently, and evolving LEED standards, it can be difficult for designers to compare and select the best materials for human health and environmental sustainability.

Rather than focusing on how the industry can incrementally become “less bad,” this session will present a model for doing “more good”. Using a set of design principles based on the C2C philosophy, we will redefine the solution. Rethinking how we design, manufacture, use and reuse materials will help spur innovation and raise the standard for materials and their selection.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Learn a set of design principles based on the C2C (Cradle to Cradle) philosophy of sustainability for application in daily work.
    • Gain insight into material ingredients to understand how design, manufacture, use and the reuse of materials impacts human health and sustainability throughout the life cycle of a product.
    • Through the use of case studies, examine products that have been redesigned and optimized, understand the challenges that manufacturers face, and the innovation necessary to scale change.
    • Use C2C principles to evaluate and select healthy and sustainable materials for use in the built environment.
