Interior Designers of Canada appoints new representatives at Annual Meeting

Published by Julia Salerno, October 04, 2011.

Interior Designers of Canada announced the appointment of three new directors to the IDC board of management at its Annual Meeting, held September 23. IDC welcomes incoming association president Donna Assaly of Assaly Interior Design Inc., Edmonton, Alberta, alongside two new directors.

IDC's Annual Meeting - and the announcement of the new board members - took place as part of IIDEX/NeoCon Canada. In addition to the face-to-face meeting, IDC's Annual Meeting was streamed live across Canada via a webcast. The webcast connected several IDC members to the Meeting who could not otherwise participate and was sponsored by Teknion. This was the second Annual Meeting for the association since a vote to restructure in 2010 moved IDC from a seven-member organization of provincial associations to an association representing nearly 3,000 individual interior designers from coast to coast.

As an involved member of the Alberta Provincial Association - Interior Designers of Alberta (IDA) - and long-time member of their board, Assaly brings seasoned association experience to her new role. "I am honoured to be taking on this new challenge," exclaimed Assaly. "It's been very exciting to watch IDC grow and evolve over the past 18 months and I'm looking forward to forging ahead and creating a stronger national voice for the interior design profession."

Having successfully completed his 18-month term as IDC President - and seen the association through its pivotal restructuring - David Hanson of Gustafson Wylie Architects Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia, will assume the role of IDC Past-President. David Gibbon of Callaghan Letellier Wiens Gibbons Facility Planning & Design Inc., Ottawa, Ontario, has been elected to the role of IDC President-Elect, leaving his role as Secretary/Director at Large.

Dorothy Stern, professor of interior design at Algonquin College, will begin her two-year term as Director of Education along with Rachel Clarida, RA Design, Kelowna, British Columbia, who will be taking on the role of Director at Large. Meanwhile, Past-President Jenny Mueller-Garbutt, MQN Interiors, Vernon, will be taking on the role of Chair of the Board of Governors. View images of the 2011 Annual Meeting.
