Our emerging professionals PROpelled even further in 2016

Published by Patrick Voisin, June 28, 2016.

After a successful PROpel: What’s Trending? program and an amazing weekend conference in Ottawa that included emerging professionals from across Canada, IDC didn’t want to say goodbye!

For the second year in a row, the event was a smashing success and IDC was excited to have a number of returning PROpellers on the list of attendees! Among them were five PROpel alumni, the Top 5 Elite VIP, who competed in a challenge last year to earn their spots at this year’s conference.

“PROpel creates such an inspiring community of like-minded people,” says Lisa Voeller, one of the Top 5 Elite VIPs. “As a return PROpeller, I thoroughly enjoyed myself again this year! The sponsors, IDC Board members and fellow designers who participated were so energetic and lovely to be around, and the networking and discussion sessions that evolved over the course of the conference were informative and entertaining. Thank you for this opportunity!”

Over the course of the weekend, emerging designers were invited to the table to contribute their thoughts on topics such as the future of the profession; best ways to educate the public; and how changing demographics, current affairs and environmental conditions affect design.

Not only did participants leave the conference feeling inspired by the motivational keynote speakers and enlightened by the conversation and dialogue, but they had also formed close bonds with their peers and with industry representatives. Through social events and fun activities – like our scavenger hunt through the National Gallery and BBQ patio lunch – the intense enthusiasm was contagious.

PROpel is a program and conference series developed by IDC exclusively for Intern members and final-year student members. The program provides a platform that allows emerging designers to share their ideas on the issues that affect them as the next generation of interior designers. IDC selected the top participants from across Canada to PROpel themselves and their careers in Ottawa from June 3-5, 2016.
