IDC members battle it out for World Interiors Day

Published by Sarah Bradbury, April 05, 2016.

In the spirit of World Interiors Day, we asked our members to talk about their passion for the profession and to comment on whether it’s nature versus nurture when it comes to creativity. Here’s what they had to say:

“In my experience over the past ten years, it has become evident that creativity is an innate trait that can be fostered and expanded through learning and experiencing new things. In rare cases, I have seen a few individuals who - although they do not necessarily have inherent creativity - have spent many years learning how to be creative. For a few, I have seen their creativity come to fruition. Ultimately however, my experience has shown that you need at least a seed of innate creativity for your creativity to be fully realized.”
Ashley Jamieson-Hinchliffe, ARIDO Registered interior designer

“The essence of creative thinking is problem solving. While I feel that the basic tenets of creativity are all very innate, we can learn how to improve and hone those skills and more importantly, how to cultivate that creativity. The creative capacity has many attributes including confidence, observation, humility, reflection, curiosity and resourcefulness. It is important to devote time to constantly explore and expand these avenues to not only improve one’s self, but the world.”
Emily Brown, ARIDO student

World Interiors Day, held annually on the last Saturday in May, is a worldwide event that celebrates the positive impact of design on society. Spearheaded by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), the event shines a spotlight on interior design and its role in creating better places to live, work, and play.

This year’s theme, Interiors Intelligence, taps into the need to bridge gaps in the interiors profession and to foster a greater appreciation for, and connection between, the built environment and its occupants.

Stay tuned as IDC gets ready to celebrate World Interiors Day on May 28. Show us how you’re celebrating this important day by sharing with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #worldinteriors, or e-mail us at communications@idcanada.org.
