Visions of British Columbia wins 2010 book award

Published by Julia Salerno, October 29, 2010.

Bruce Grenville, a senior curator at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and Scott Steedman, a freelance editor and author, are the winners of the 2010 City of Vancouver Book Award for Visions of British Columbia, an introduction to the city's cultural landscape through the eyes of its most notable visual and literary artists.
Mayor Gregor Robertson presented the $2,000 award to Visions of British Columbia during a City Council meeting, marking the 22nd anniversary of the City of Vancouver Book Awards.

An independent jury cited the authors' work for being a visually stunning marriage of art and literature showcasing the Vancouver Art Gallery's collection. They found it to be a well designed and well curated piece that revealed the cultural importance of visual art. In particular, they noted the ethnic diversity of the contributors, the range of poets and journalists, and the attention to artists in Vancouver.

The other finalists for this year's award were: George Bowering for The Box; Matt Hern for Common Ground in a Liquid City; and Chris MacDonald for A Guidebook to Contemporary Architecture in Vancouver.
