IDIBC's Fall Membership Breakfast

Published by Julia Salerno, November 29, 2010.

IDIBC recently held its Fall Membership Breakfast at the Georgian Court Hotel. The sold out event was a great success, where attendees learned of the 2011 Industry membership benefits and ways of getting involved in the upcoming year.

IDI President, Sally Mills, began the presentation with a review of the provincial restructuring. Her message was clear, that In addition to strengthening the professional design industry--locally, provincially and nation-wide--the new structure benefits Industry Members though opportunities to connect with the design industry across Canada. IDC President, David Hanson, also addressed breakfast attendees.

At the presentation, Shellee O'Leary announced a priliminary calendar of events for 2011, highlighting three key happenings. The year starts off with a bang as IDI hosts it's inaugural IDC/IIDA Leaders Breakfast at Buildex in February, where former NHL all-star will deliver the keynote address and IDI will honour Robert Ledingham. In the spring, IDC's face-to-face board meeting will take place in Victoria. And in the fall, IDIBC's Awards Gala will be truly grand as a feature event at IDS-West.

Alyssa Myshok, IDI's first Vice President, outlined the IDIBC Industry Membership and Sponsorship opportunities for 2011. The package offers both local and national exposure for Industry Members through IDI and IDC. 2011 Sponsorship opportunities have expanded to include national sponsorship through IDC for the Awards Gala and the formation of IDIBC's Vancouver Island Chapter. Kevin Barrett of Impact Office Furnishings and Chair of the Business Development Committee, offered Industry members the opportunity to join the Business Development Committee for further networking opportunities.

The morning's CEU presentation by social media guru, Mhairi Petrovic of Out-Smarts Marketing had the room a twitter! Her presentation - How to Use Social Media To Build Your Online Brand and Grow Your Design Business - was very informative.
